My 5 Favorite Tile Aesthetics of 2024

1) Large Format Tile

I am such a sucker for large format tiles right now. I love the look of a neutral color 24x48ā€ tile on floors and in showers. The advantage of a large format is that there are fewer grout joints to worry about, and because of that I think it gives a cleaner look. Also, with a properly placed niche, the shower is so clean. You can make floors look almost seamless with large format tile as well.

2) Arches

There's something about arches in 2024 that just looks so good. It adds elegance and sophistication to any project, as well as extra headroom when walking through a doorway. It adds a bit of extra work when tiling but my gosh does it look terrific. It takes any normal space and gives it an architectural feel, which is seldom a bad thing.

3) Mitered corners

Mitered corners have always been and will always be a personal favorite of mine. Avoiding a metal trim piece (although I think they look good) will always look cleaner and more professional to me. So around niches, curbs, and windows, I will always push for there to be mitered edges.

4) Zero-entry Showers

Zero-Entry showers are a luxury item, but the result is so worth it. Not only does it appear to be just part of the existing floor, but it is also ADA-compliant. So if living with someone who cannot get over a shower curb this is especially important.

5) Zellige tile

Although Iā€™m a fan of large format I also started to love the look of zellige. Zellige and handmade tile in general just add a human coziness to any space that they are used. The imperfections in each piece are a nice subtle change from the perfection most other tiles try to achieve. Zellige is difficult to install because of these imperfections, but when grouted and finished it produces a result like no other.
